Glendalough Adventures and Friends

on may 20th i went to glendalough with my class. i am with the prairie science class for school. i go there every morning and learn about nature until about 11:00; then i go to cleveland for the rest of the day. so anyway, i went on a field trip to glendalough and was there all day. so everybody had to bring their own lunch from home. there were 4 classes there all together and 6-8 groups. so we were all put in to groups and had so much fun! the people in my group were, ainsley, rayshaun, william, owen, alexis, and one other person that i can't remember his name. our leader's name was mrs. karin.

 

this is my bff ainsley. this was the first activity we did. a sound map ( that is you make symbols for all the sounds you hear around you)

this painted turtle was at our next stop by a river. he slowly moved back to the river.

 

we saw this when we were walking around annie battle lake. it is a eagle's nest. than we walked the rest of the way around the lake. ainsley and i got to be the mapers cause mrs. karin said she wasn't good at it. so we had the most fun, in my opinion.

when we got all the way around the lake we met up with two other groups and all waded in the lake and got really wet!

then our group went back to where we started and did a free write (that is where you can write what ever you want).

starting the new year with a blog post and an update about me

I have been missing my blog.  My mom did a new interview of me tonight to get me started blogging again.

What are your favorite things to do?
draw and play with my american girl dolls and my stuffed animals

What sorts of things do you like to draw?
i like to draw cartoon characters - some that i make up and some from cartoons i've already seen

What are you most excited about for this new year?
starting going to public school and playing with friends at the beach when summer comes again

What is your favorite season?
spring and fall because you can wear flip-flops and a hoodie

So tell me about reading. 
i like to read books with big words and lots of pictures.  some of my favorites are Keeker and Ivy and Bean

What else do you want to tell us about? 
we went on a long trip this fall and drove all the way to mammoth lakes, california - where i found my new favorite shop - wave rave 
i really like pixar movies 
my favorite food is stir fry 
my new favorite dipping condiment is honey mustard 
i have a pretty good size bottle top collection

Paper Dolls Made By Mary Englebriet

last sunday i was cutting out paper dolls just for something to do, cause my mom had some paper dolls that were not cut out.  so i cut and cut and cut them out.



this is lila.  she is ann's sister.



there were a whole bunch of uncut paper dolls.  :)



this is lila, mikayla, georgia, gracie, ann estelle and tommy.  tommy is ann estelle's cousin and all the others are friends.




all of the little things go in these envelopes - hats and candy and little things like that.  :)

stef and simon

stef  and simon are some of our good friends.   stef passes me and mom clothes and simon teaches me how to draw!   they are so cool!  

we have so much fun together!   :)       they are travel nurses so we don't get to see them very much so they bought us plane tickets to fly to florida so we coud see them!   we went in april last year.  after we landed, stef's car came flying up the hill to the airport!  :)

we had so much fun in florida!   me, mom and stef even went to a spa!   the boys had fun too.    we were there for a whole week!   i got my ears pierced there!  we went to the beach a lot.  it was so fun!

I love the "Magic Tree House" books!   They are about little kids named Jack and Annie. They go everywhere!!!

Oh-no!!!  My dad is siting in my chair!!!

i love my chickens

we have chickens that think "better out than in"   some stay in and lay eggs and some go out and scratch and peck :)     

I drew this on a letter to a 4-year-old friend who has chicks too. And my mom liked it so she took a photo.

chickens are like TV ... Better than TV :)                                                                                

I love my chickens . . . and my chickens love me :)

some times chick chores are a pain . . . but I know I am doing the right thing :)       (poop, gross)

Hello everybody!      Sorry I haven't been writing very often.     I wanted to say hello and see if you still read my blog. . . . . . . . and wanted you all to see what I saw one night.  So I was doing the dishes with mom and I glanced over and said   "Mom look!"   she said   "That is crazy."  {half laughing.}   "And it is Pink"!   I said.  and it was bright, bright Pink.

Maddie's comments :: At the beginning Ivy and Bean don't want to meet each other.  They are just so different.  But one day, they run into each other, and they really like each other.  This is a fun and happy and silly story.  Maddie thinks that girls who are 6, 7 or 8 years-old would really like this story.

There are 113 pages in this book, but it also has a lot of pictures and nice, big writing.  Maddie read this story in one evening right before bed-time.

Because of Winn-Dixie

Maddie's comments :: Maddie likes when Opal meets all her friends.  Her favorite part is when Opal finds Winn-Dixie - the beginning of the story.  Maddie says this story is really, really, really great. 

Maddie and I both recommend this story.  It is geared toward 8 to 12 year-olds, but a younger child who is reading well would definitely enjoy it.  And so would an adult who loves a story that is well-written.  Kate DiCamillo is an excellent story-teller - her story is lovely and so is her writing.

Aunt Clara Brown

Maddie's comments :: Maddie was impressed with the store that Clara Brown set up and ran.  She was also interested to know that Clara Brown could buy 5 loaves of bread for 50 cents.  And the ending is the best part.  :) 

Maddie and I both recommend this story.  It's great for early readers.  It is also a good read aloud for kiddos who can listen to a longer story but aren't reading or reading proficiently on their own.
