A Shop Update!

It is here!  The doll cradle!

The cradle will comfortably rock any 17" doll.  Read all about it at the Bits of Sunshine Shop!

I'll be making some doll quilts for the shop, too.  And the first cradle purchase will receive a doll quilt with their cradle, just as a 'thank you' from me!

Giveaways and Generosity

I read a post the other day by another crafty lady and she was wondering if generous people become crafters or if crafters become generous people - the whole chicken and egg thing.  :o)  I thought about it for a while, too - and judging from all the giveaways yesterday - something is up with crafting and generosity going hand-in-hand.  It's one thing to offer a giveaway to get blog traffic.  It's another to really go all out with what one offers - and a lot of these ladies do.  I am so amazed at what some of the giveaways include!  (And I have already won one!  Along with two others this week!  Pictures to come when the items arrive in the mail!)

Visit the bitsofsunshine shop over on Etsy!  We are opening today at 12 noon central US time!  More items will be added over the next week.  I will blog each update before Christmas.

This shop is a collaboration between Legacy Builders (my husband, my brother, and a buddy of theirs) and me (Elizabeth of bitsofsunshine).

Christmas is coming and what better to gift with than a bit of handmade loveliness.


The guys have each designed a wooden toy. We will be offering a wooden runner sled, perfect for a toddler, designed and built by Ben :: a wooden rocking horse, designed and built by Tim :: and a wooden doll cradle, fits most 17 inch dolls (or smaller), designed and built by David. We will also be offering upcycled ends and pieces blocks - carefully sanded so no little fingers will meet with a splinter - in a handmade drawstring bag for carrying and storage.

The wooden toys will be hardwoods, carefully sanded to an oh-so-smooth finish, and rubbed to a shine with a natural finishing product - either beeswax or linseed oil.

The textile pieces will all be found fabrics - either from rummage sales or thrift shops, and will be a variety of vintage or passed on fabrics, and used clothing, sheeting, tablecloths, etc.

After you visit, come back and leave a comment telling me which block bag you like the best.  One lucky person will win a set of ends and pieces blocks in time for Christmas!

Now, with no breather in between,

here comes the beginning of my next set of quilts. 

My sister-in-law, Chrissy, and her husband, Pete,  are in the process of adopting three little boys.  She is also pregnant with a little boy! So her sister Annie (who is my neighbor, and is married to my brother, and is my sister-in-law twice, and is mother to my children's double-cousins - confused yet?) and I are making a whole pile of quilts for them.  A big one we are working on together for Pete and Chrissy (pictures to come), little ones made by Annie for Tate (the 2 year old) and Isaiah (the one on the way) and little ones made by me for Kale and Nolan (the 1 year old twins).

I am off to buy some iron-fuse stuff, to position the stars on the fabric for applique. 

Today should be lovely. 
It's cool. 
The sun is coming up. 
We are going to have lunch with Ben on his jobsite
and I am going to get lots done on these little quilts!
