in 2012, i decided to cover the inside of our door with thankful thoughts. the kids and i set to work and every day we added a thankful leaf to our door.
maybe it's since then that i have been overwhelmed with the way that being grateful for the little things makes every day better. there is always, always something to be grateful for.
when i make note of the things i am grateful for, i always find more to take note of.
early this summer, i found a group on instgram, a group of ladies who shares their gratitudes with the marker #htfgratitude - i love these posts, and i joined the community of noticing and giving thanks. my instgram feed is full of lists of gratitudes. there is such joy in writing these lists, savoring the moments, the smells, the tastes, the sights, the memories. there is so much joy in reading what others write in their lists. and then there are the aha! moments. moments of "i should look for that in my life" of "i am grateful for that, too!" of connection, of encouragement.
when i started teaching school, i decided our classroom rules would be simple: "in this room, we will practice kindness, respect and gratitude." i also titled the corner of one whiteboard "moments of gratitude" - i have my kiddos write at least one thing they are grateful for every day. this sets a tone.
i love the reminders to notice and to be grateful, to give thanks.
this week, i am participating in another gratitude collaboration. gratitude week 2015. hosted by michelle gd. she will be sending a little note out each morning, with thoughts and reminders about practicing gratitude. i am looking forward to the conscious thoughtfulness her notes are sure to inspire. join us?
