i went by myself. i took my camera with me. for a ways, i walked hard and fast and let my legs and lungs work hard. then i slowed down and breathed deep and looked hard, let my eyes drink in the grey shrouded beauty. sometimes, i stopped and framed what i was seeing with my camera.
it is so big out here. that very prominent rock formation is called capitol rock. it is over seven miles from where i was standing to take this picture. the space is amazing and wonderful.
so much grey set me looking for some color.
still some green and yellow to be found. even though i am a sunshine girl through and through, there is something about the way a grey day makes tree trunks and mountain shapes and leaves stand right out and colors seem all the more saturated and wonderful.
this is my favorite building to look at - i can see this little cabin from my living room window. if i am ever choosing colors for the outside of a house again, bright blue window trim and a brick red door will be a possibility, a very good possibility.
and the little house with bright blue window trim and a brick red door should have horses in the backyard - or horses that belong to a neighbor who would exchange chores for riding hours. that sounds just about right.
some days here, i feel like i could just strap on a pack and walk for days. i plan to do just that, with my kiddos or my ben, this coming spring. for now, a few minutes or hours at a time will have to suffice.
