So, I have a white skirt with a pretty red flower pattern. I bought the skirt at a rummage sale last summer for $.75. The flowers are big and simple, and I had thought that it would be fun to embroider over some of them. I decided to start in on it the other day - what a great sitting in the sun project to visit over. My sister-in-law asked, "Is that what you call red-work?" Maybe. I guess it could be. Well, yes. It is.
If you are curious, read about the history of red-work here. See some other pretty red-work here.
While I stitched and visited (and was quietly thankful for those of you who were thinking of and praying for me), my kiddos were happily riding bikes and playing all sorts of wild games with their cousins.
Sometimes, there are just relationships in our lives that are wrinkly. And sometimes, we get to work those wrinkles out, and other times, the wrinkles stay. And smooth for a time. And then wrinkle again. And we just wonder if they'll ever, ever, ever ease and smooth and be at rest.
The relationship that I had written about previously has stayed smooth, and has grown and eased and is such a blessing in my life. Now, we sit side-by-side and stitch and watch our children play and visit with each other through some other wrinkles. And know that if our relationship could mend, if we can understand each other, then maybe, just maybe, some understanding and easing can come in these other relationships, too.
And today, the sun is shining. I have more bread in the oven. Isaac is going to work with Ben. And Maddie, her cousin, and I are going to babysit triplets - 3 10-month-old girls - for about 6 hours - it should be fun!
I want you all to know how very much I appreciate your friendship. Love and hugs ~e
