I am having a lack of inspiration for a summertime post today.
It rained most of the day yesterday.
It was so dark at noon that the kids asked if it was bed time.
At one point, it rained over 4 inches in less than 2 hours.
And may I tell you where a lot of that water went?
Into our basement.
And some came down around the chimney into Maddie's closet
and down the living room wall.
Ben came home from work, climbed up onto the roof,
and fixed the leak around the chimney.
While the rain was pouring down.
Then he came inside and put dry clothes on.
I love seeing him in the middle of the day,
even if the roof had to leak to get him here.
I spent a couple hours sopping up water in our basement.
I threw towels down into the "lake"
picked them up - dripping -
threw them in the washer and ran the heavy spin cycle,
took the towels out,
and repeated this process many times.
Thankfully most everything we have in the basement
is in storage tubs. There were just a couple cardboard boxes
that I had to go through . . . I salvaged most everything.
I had worked on the water for a while in the afternoon.
I went down to finish after the kiddos were tucked in.
When I came up, Ben had unloaded the dish-washer
and had most of it loaded back up!
There were just a few things for me to wash by hand.
After Ben and I crawled in bed
(don't worry! this is G-rated!)
we talked about when we first knew each other,
and some of our best memories from the months
before we got married.
The perfect bedtime story.

So. These "summer" posts. I think part of the reason for writing them has been to help me realize that we are having summer. Even if it is colder and darker than most summers. We have still been playing outside. And enjoying flowers. And each day that it is warm enough to play in the water, we just savor the whole day. And I can't complain about the cool evenings - great for campfires and sleeping! I guess this summer we are all forced to look a little more closely for the "summertime" we love. But aren't we a little more thankful when we find it? I know that I am.
